LV Dry-type Power Transformers

Types of Dry Type Distribution Transformers

There are two main variants of Dry-Type Distribution Transformer: Cast Resin Transformer and Vacuum Pressure Impregnated Transformer.

The primary and secondary windings in a Cast Resin Transformer are insulated in epoxy resin, which makes it perfect for areas that have high humidity or moisture. It can take heavy power loads in comparison to other transformers and does not lead to short circuits. They are particularly useful when the transformer needs to be fitted outside without the worry of rain or the sun. It usually comes in ratings of 25 KVA to 12,500 KVA.

The windings in the Vacuum Pressure Impregnated Transformer are made in foils, discs, or strips so it can easily regulate the voltage to suit the devices connected. It works perfectly in moisture-prone areas. This transformer comes in a rating of 5KVA to 30MVA.

Advantages Of A Dry-Type Distribution Transformer

Higher safety standards
The priority in power distribution is safety, and dry-type distribution transformers have proved excellent in this. The fire hazard is well below the acceptable limit in these transformers since they use no oil.

Low maintenance requirements
One major advantage of dry-type distribution transformers is that they require very little maintenance. Oil-filled transformers are prone to leakage and contamination because of the oil. The sealed design of these transformers prevents dust and moisture from entering, thereby increasing their operational life.

Environment-friendly operation

Dry-type transformers are one of the environmentally friendly alternatives to oil-filled transformers. Their air-cooled design does not require oil and hence does not pose any danger of soil and water contamination. Also, they make very little noise and follow the strictest environmental regulations.

Versatility in applications

Whether you need a transformer for indoor usage or tough outdoor conditions, dry-type transformers have an unmatched level of flexibility. Their rugged structure enables them to withstand some harsh weather conditions, making them suitable for outdoor dry-type transformer installations. They are compact and lightweight, making them easy to install in cramped spaces.

Longevity and durability

Long-term value is created with an investment in a dry-type transformer. Since it is constructed for harsh conditions, such as high humidity and temperature changes, the dry-type transformer will experience minimal wear and tear because of its construction, and its lifespan will be extended.

Dry Type Rectifier Transformers

Excellent fire-resistant performance
Dry-type rectifier transformers use fire-resistant and self-extinguishing solid insulation materials, such as epoxy resin. Unlike oil-immersed transformers, they do not release toxic gases or cause explosions during emergencies like fires. This makes them ideal for high-fire-risk areas like hospitals, schools, and office buildings, ensuring the safety of electrical systems in crowded environments.

Elimination of oil pollution risks
By abandoning insulating oil, dry-type rectifier transformers eliminate the risk of oil leakage. This not only prevents environmental pollution of soil and water sources but also reduces equipment failures and maintenance costs, enhancing operational stability and reliability.

No environmental pollution
Lacking insulating oil, dry-type rectifier transformers do not pollute the environment throughout their lifecycle. There is no oil discharge during production, operation, or disposal, aligning with green development concepts and contributing to environmental protection.

Efficient operation with low energy consumption
Optimized design and advanced manufacturing technologies enable dry-type rectifier transformers to achieve lower operational losses and reduce energy waste. Their efficient energy transfer mechanisms improve energy utilization efficiency, helping businesses cut electricity costs and achieve sustainability goals.

Low maintenance costs
Dry-type rectifier transformers require no regular insulating oil replacement, significantly reducing maintenance workload and costs. Their simple structure and high reliability result in fewer failures, further lowering maintenance frequency and expenses, making them more economical for users.

Stable electrical performance
Without insulating oil, the electrical performance of dry-type rectifier transformers is less affected by environmental factors and less prone to degradation. They maintain a stable working state even with continuous long-term operation, ensuring a reliable power supply and extending equipment lifespan.

Strong short-circuit resistance
These transformers have robust mechanical strength and excellent short-circuit resistance. They can quickly respond to and withstand short-circuit current impacts, protecting the equipment from severe damage, extending service life, and reducing replacement frequency.

Compact and lightweight design
The small size and light weight of dry-type rectifier transformers make installation more flexible and convenient. They do not require a special foundation and can be easily installed in various complex locations, such as high-rise buildings, subway systems, and chemical plants, accommodating diverse spatial needs.

Strong environmental adaptability
These transformers can operate stably in high humidity and harsh environments. Users can also configure enclosures or leave them uncovered based on the actual environment, enhancing the equipment's versatility and applicability.

Application Fields of Dry-Type Rectifier Transformers
