Detailed explanation of three types of reactors

The three fundamental components in an electrical system include resistors, capacitors, and inductors. Inductance plays an important role in suppressing current changes and shifting the phase of alternating current in circuits. A reactor, a static induction device with an inductive effect, is actually a hollow coil made of non-magnetic material. According to the needs, it can be arranged in three assembly forms: vertical, horizontal, or cross shaped.

The function of parallel reactors
Parallel reactors play an important role in reactive power compensation, which can improve the voltage distribution on long transmission lines, absorb charging capacitive reactive power in cable lines, and prevent self excitation magnetic resonance phenomenon when generators are equipped with long lines.

The function of series reactors
Series reactors are mainly used to limit short-circuit currents, and can also be connected in series or parallel with capacitors in filters to limit high-order harmonics in the power grid. The main function of a series reactor is to limit current.

The function of DC reactor
DC reactors are usually installed between the DC rectifier and inverter links in frequency conversion systems. Their main function is to limit the AC component superimposed on the DC current to a specified value, ensure the continuity of the rectifier current, reduce the current pulse value, make the inverter link operate more reliably and stably, and improve the power factor of the frequency converter.
